Using your senses to bring calm
Are you feeling overwhelmed or want to practice simple meditation to help find a moment of calm. There are easy techniques to help you by focusing on your senses. this can be as simple as 30 seconds a day or as long as you are able
Notice what is around you or look within for a lovely memory, what tugs at a smile. As long as around you is safe start to use all your senses & notice more detail.
Focus on that image & how does/did it make you feel, make sure you only focus on the joyful happy feelings. If any negative thoughts, take a deep breath & re focus on the positive. If initially you only do this for a few seconds, that is enough as you can build on that lovely feeling & then add in the other senses when you are able.
What are the textures, colours, sounds. Focus in on the details. Is it the smell of your shampoo, the taste of that wonderful desert, the leaves on the trees, the wind brushing past you, the warmth of the sun, the warm soft fur of your pet, the giggle of a baby, gentle laughter of children playing, the feel of another’s hand holding yours & giving you the support you need.
Can you touch it how does it feel, is it cold, warm, hard, soft. Is it a taste what are the different flavours what textures can you feel on your tongue. Does it make a sound what feelings/sensations does that bring, how does it smell is it comforting/tempting. Take deep breathes & focus on as much detail as you can.
Take as long as is comfortable/available…. a few seconds, minutes. Then slowly bring yourself away from the detail, take deep breathes & feel the calm all around.
